The Tribune is doing a project called Chicago Under the Gun where photographers and reports cover violent crime in the city. I was able to experience going on an overnight shift with John Kim to see what it’s like. There are some very dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago, so anyone on an overnight is required to wear a bulletproof vest. The night I went was very quiet, but we did go to one shooting. It was a pretty unnerving experience, but the Tribune staff is doing an amazing job with it.
