Ostrich racing

There was also camel and zebra races, but the ostriches were the coolest.

The jockey who was supposed to ride ostrich No. 2 backed out last minute when he approached the large bird, so Elliott took his place. Elliott has worked with the ostriches with Hedricks Promotions Inc., who provided the unusual racing animals.

 

Handlers hold the winning ostrich in the winners circle after the races on June 23, 2012 at the Lincoln Race Course. There are no reins compatible with an ostrich, so it must be held and lead by hand.
